Meet Luis Miguel Sifuentes
Luis Miguel Sifuentes was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Luis is the youngest of four children and was raised by a single, immigrant mother, who continues to work tirelessly to provide for her family.
During Luis' formative years, many teachers helped Luis realize his goal of higher education. They changed his life in ways they might not realize. This is where a lot of Luis' passion for education comes from. Luis knows the difference teachers and educators can make in a student's life. That is why Luis went into education.
After graduating from Valparaiso University in Northwest Indiana, Luis spent a year abroad teaching English in Japan with the JET program. This experience gave Luis a chance to see first hand how a teacher can shape a student's life. After his time in Japan, Luis taught with Teach For America right here in the great state of Texas, teaching Texas history at King Academy in San Antonio.
While in San Antonio, Luis met his now husband, Justin, and relocated to Fort Worth. Once in Fort Worth, Luis continued his teaching career as a middle school social studies teacher with FWISD for an additional three years.
In 2017, Luis was accepted to Indiana University's full time MBA program on a full tuition scholarship. Luis spent two years attaining his MBA graduate degree and then pursued a career in human resources. Luis now works as a Talent Lead for a manufacturer in North Texas.
Luis lives in Southlake, Texas with his husband Justin, and two year old daughter Amelia.
Luis' passion for education still runs deep, which is why Luis is running for District 11 on the Texas State Board of Education.
